WINNIE THE POOH

I am still in shock as I write this. Disney, in its illustrious wisdom, has decided to leave Christopher Robin out of the next Pooh feature, and replace him with a six year-old girl. Or, as I read in one internet comment of outrage: a "Tomboy Chick!" Even The Times weighed in with coverage of the shameful substitution. Apparently, Christopher Robin is just not a saleable commodity.
Living in Devon, Lesley Milne, widow of A.A. Milne’s son Christopher Robin, the inspiration behind the stories . . .
“He hated the character Christopher Robin and Winnie the Pooh and Disney,” she said. “He detested the whole set-up so much that I don’t think he would have minded the loss.”
Such feelings aside, the general consensus seems to be "Why mess with perfection?" With headlines such as "Say It Aint So, Christopher Robin" and "Disney's Pooh Redo", the media has jumped into the fray with both feet and full outrage.
Who was Christopher Robin?

Remember the A A Milne poem from your childhood? Here is "Buckingham Palace:"
They're changing guard at Buckingham Palace -
Christopher Robin went down with Alice.
Alice is marrying one of the guard.
"A soldier's life is terribly hard,"
Says Alice.
They're changing guard at Buckingham Palace -
Christopher Robin went down with Alice.
We saw a guard in a sentry-box.
"One of the sergeants looks after their socks,"
Says Alice.
They're changing guard at Buckingham Palace -
Christopher Robin went down with Alice.
We looked for the King but he never came.
"Well, God take care of him, all the same,"
Says Alice.
They're changing guard at Buckingham Palace -
Christopher Robin went down with Alice.
They've great big parties inside the grounds.
"I wouldn't be King for a hundred pounds,"
Says Alice.
They're changing guard at Buckingham Palace -
Christopher Robin went down with Alice.
A face looked out, but it wasn't the King's.
"He's much too busy a-signing things,"
Says Alice.
They're changing guard at Buckingham Palace -
Christopher Robin went down with Alice.
"Do you think the King knows all about me?"
"Sure to, dear, but it's time for tea,"
Says Alice
