The  buzz  about  Miss   Potter

January seems to be Beatrix Potter month. It's a good time to recall how much all our childhoods were enriched by this interesting and talented lady.

The movie "Miss Potter," starring Renee Zellweger and Ewan McGregor, is to be released nationwide this month. It is receiving good early reviews.

Also in January, a new biography written by Linda Lear, "Beatrix Potter: A Life in Nature" will be released. At first, it will only be available in hardback (but see Amazon.com, where they are offering the hardback for $19.80, a discount from the $30.00 list price,) and you can always wait for the paperback or borrow it from the library.

Go to the terrific review of the book by one of my favorite authors, Susan Wittig Albert.

Susan Wittig Albert is the author of an enchanting, whimsical series of "Cottage tales" mysteries, which use Beatrix Potter's life and characters as the background. I find these tales simply delightful when I feel in a cozy need-to-relax mood, and Susan's sense of place brings the Lake District countryside alive. If you can set aside your sense of reality for a moment, you will become totally absorbed in the fanciful idea of Beatrix Potter's animals conversing. To read them in order, they are: "The Tale of Hill Top Farm." "The Tale of Holly How" and "The Tale of Cuckoo Brow Wood."

While on the subject of Susan Wittig Albert, don't miss her blog, Lifescapes. I find it calming and restorative in the middle of a crazy day.

Since posting this page, the USA release date of "Miss Potter" has been postponed until after the Oscars. So look out for it in your area in a few months.
