CHRISTMAS IN BRITAIN:

MINCE PIES

mincepies

Mince pies are a big part of British Christmas.
So we made them our December Recipe of the Month.

MINCE PIE TRADITIONS . . .

Mince pies should traditionally be oval in shape to represent the manger, but as few people have tins that shape, they are nearly always round nowadays.

You should make a wish on the first mince pie of the season.

You should try to eat one for every day of the 12 Days of Christmas - then you will have good fortune for the 12 months until next Christmas.

Another custom is to offer and accept a mince pie in each house you visit over the Christmas holiday.

To optimize your good luck - you should eat 12 different pies on the 12 days of Christmas made by 12 different cooks!

On Christmas Eve, children often leave out mince pies, brandy or some similar warming beverage for Father Christmas.
