SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 25TH Brits and Anglophiles are invited to break bread together and enjoy an evening of good food and drink, good music and good company. Why don't you become an Anglophile for the evening! CALL 504-367-4116 FOR RESERVATIONS
At the PALM COURT JAZZ CAFE 1204, Decatur Street in the French Quarter, from 6:30 p.m. till 10:30 p.m. Again, we are very grateful to our member Nina Buck, owner of the Palm Court Jazz Cafe, who generously makes the facility available to the DBE for our event. Nina, you're the best!
As always, this event will benefit one of the several retirement homes operated and supported by DBE, giving the residents (of all nationalities) a later life of comfort and dignity. This year, some of the proceeds will also benefit the local PBS station, WYES, which does such wonderful work bringing us arts, theatre, news, and all those programs that bring joy into our lives. Again this year, we are thrilled that Peggy Scott Laborde, a mainstay of WYES will be donating her time to be our MC. | |

What do we do at Pub Night? We meet others. We make new friends. The first hour is a Meet and Greet hour. You can buy a cocktail from the bar, or British beer - Bass, Guiness, Harp or Newcastle Brown. Or the traditional British summer drink: Pimms. Brits may not have brought the cocktail into the world, but they more than made up for it, with Pimms Fruit Cup. Did you know that the two most popular and widely consumed drinks at Wimbledon, the Henley Regatta and the Glyndebourne Opera are champagne and Pimms? During the Meet and Greet hour, as well as making new friends, we also wander around and study the items to be auctioned (signing up for our paddle) and play the Map Game. We would love you to come in costume, anything with a British connection - perhaps a kilt, or something historical, if you have it. Most New Orleaneans have costumes in their wardrobe! Throughout the evening, we shall enjoy the live music of the Lars Edegran Jazz Trio. Our toes will be tapping to traditional jazz, and this will be interspersed with many old British favorites - if you feel the urge to sing or hum along, please do. Lars is husband of our member Kathy. Tommy also has a DBE connection: his father's first cousin was Lady Lois Kane, a founder-member of several DBE chapters about half a century ago!

More fun to be had during and after dinner . . . make sure you have played the Map Game to decide where the buried treasure is hidden, so you can win the prize. Play the "BEAUTIFUL BRITAIN" quiz - get all ten questions right and win another prize! (Or you may win with only 8 or 9 right answers, if you have the most!) And from time to time, MC Peggy Scott Laborde will be calling numbers for door prizes, so check the number on the back of your program. The highlight of the evening is the Auction, and this year we welcome and thank auctioneer Robin Ruiz Wilkinson for donating her time for our Cause. The items to be auctioned are always very varied - from fine jewelry and accessories, to art work, baskets of British goodies, and much much more. We round off the evening with a good old singalong and send you home with all those old British songs stuck in your head . . . "The White Cliffs of Dover," "A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square," "We'll Meet Again," "Pack up Your Troubles," "Land of Hope and Glory" . . . and all the oldies. Now you know that we have a really good time. Why don't you join us? You need to make advance reservations, because our numbers are limited. Call 504-367-4116 with your VISA or MASTERCARD to charge $ 55 per person, and if your party is 6 or more, you can also reserve a table. Where to park? The best parking is a lot at "U-PARK" between Esplanade and Elysian Fields.Or you may choose to park alongside the floodwall: the entrance is at Jax Brewery and you should park near to the Ursuline Street exit.
