June, 2002 . . . Celebration of the Golden Jubilee of Queen Elizabeth II

The Golden Jubilee marks the 50th anniversary of the Queen's accession to the throne on February 6, 1952. Celebrations are being held in June, because February 6th is also the anniversary of the death of King George VI, and not a suitable date for public festivities.

The main celebration of the Queen's Golden Jubilee will be held June 1st - June 4th, culminating on June 4th when the Queen will attend a National Service of Thanksgiving at St. Paul's Cathedral.

By the end of 2002, Queen Elizabeth II will have risen to fifth longest on the throne.

Louisiana DBE members will be celebrating the Queen's Golden Jubilee on Sunday June 2nd, with a Church Service in Covington, followed by a champagne reception at the home of one of our members. Email us and let us know how you plan to mark the occasion.
