![]() Did your Mom teach you the rhyme that figures it all out? Mine did. Care Away Palm Sunday Easter Day! Start from Easter Sunday and work backwards. Mothering Sunday has no connection with American Mother's Day. The British celebration has origins all the way back to pre-Christian times with a Spring festival dedicated to Mother Goddesses. In the Middle Ages, it was called "Refreshment Sunday" and everyone revisited their "Mother Church" where they were baptized. This Sunday gradually becaome a time for the whole family to spend time together and give gifts and flowers to their Mothers. Servants and laborers were given time off to go home.
If you left it too late this year, you can always send a card by Express Mail. And there's still time to call a florist to deliver flowers. To find a florist in your Mom's town, go to Find Florists and enter the town. REMINDER . . . When American Mother's Day comes around in May, don't forget to buy a card to send to your Mother in the UK NEXT year. Then don't forget where you put it!! If by some chance, you didn't do that last year, I have found that most Hallmark stores are very cooperative, and will let you poke around in their box of Mothers Day cards from the previous year. I've done that before. ©1999-2006 DBE in Louisiana, Inc. All rights reserved. Questions/Comments? Contact the Webmaster Betty Calzada. |
