![]() The Queen can send a message, in the form of a personalised greetings card, to a person who is a British Citizen for: * a 100th, 105th birthday, and any birthday after 105. * a 60th, 65th, 70th wedding anniversary, and any wedding anniversary after the 70th. A card can also be sent to a citizen of a country of which the Queen is head of state, providing that the citizen is resident in that country at the time. How to Apply for a Message from the Queen: You can apply for a message for yourself or for someone else. For birthdays, the Dept for Work & Pensions arranges for a message to be sent to anyone of the appropriate age who is receiving a retirement pension, Pension Credit or income support. An officer from the local social security office will visit to confirm the person's age. Alternatively, an application form can be obtained directly from Buckingham Palace. For wedding anniversaries, an application form must be sent to Buckingham Palace, at least three weeks ahead of the date. In 2000, almost 30,000 were sent. ![]() On 4 August 2000, Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth The Queen Mother became the first member of the Royal family to reach the age of 100 and the qualify for the traditional centenarian birthday message. The Queen's 100th birthday card was delivered by her postman, and she asked her equerry to open the envelope with his sword.
