I received an update from Prof.
Peggy Ann Turner in Wanganui, New
Zealand. She writes:

"I'm still searching for War Brides/Land Girls.
Would you mind reposting my message?
I have a new mailing address and email
that are listed below."

Thanks,
Peggy Turner

Land Girls

Peggy writes:

I am the daughter of a British War Bride (Margaret Helen Brastock Turner of London, who was in the Land Army in the Salisbury, Dorset area.) I am creating a portrait exhibition and a book honouring War Bride/Land Girls who were in the Women's Land Army in England, Scotland, Wales, WLS/New Zealand, and Australia during WW11. To date I have an even split of 16 ladies in the US and Canada and one Kiwi lady who lives in Florida. I am hoping to locate and include more Kiwi and Aussie Land Girl/War Brides.

I am a Senior Lecturer in Graphic Design at the Wanganui School of Design/Waikato University in New Zealand, and a native of Tennessee (where my Mum and Dad still live.) I need to connect with as many Land Girls/War Brides as I can, to obtain the following: old and current photos, your memories and stories (handwritten is great!), WLA/WLS documents, how you/they met your/their husbands (photos of your engagement/wedding), love letters or excerpts, memorabilia, mementoes, uniforms, work clothes, the exact chores you performed, breeds of livestock you cared for, etc. Nothing is too trivial for this project.

I would be so grateful to hear from as many of you as possible. It would be lovely if you could put me in touch with other War Brides/Land Girls (or family members) as well. Feel free to give them my email address:
p.a.turner@ucol.ac.nz

I will recognize all the people who have assisted me in the research for my exhibition and book. I look forward to hearing from you soon. Any photos, etc. will be cared for archivally and returned as soon as I can. Images via the internet are not appropriate (except for reference) as they are third generation by the time I receive them. Excellent photographic copies from a good camera/film shop are best for me to use. Please tell the shop that they must scan in Photoshop at no less than 400 DPI for a MacIntosh computer. Also, they must not crop out or remove the original borders of the photos. Ask for the files on a CD. No printouts are necessary.

Please feel free to contact me via email, or by post at the following address:

Thank you for taking the time to read this message and I look forward to hearing from you.

Gratefully, and many thanks, Prof. Peggy Ann Turner

PS: If you will allow me to use your actual photos, I will donate your portrait to you and/or your family after the exhibition(s) are over.
