SOME UNUSUAL ACTIVITIES FOR A 2007 TRIP
If you have a trip to the UK planned for this year, here are a few unusual activities that may interest you .....
RACE THE TRAIN

For the 24th year, you can go to Tywyn (in Wales) on August 18th and "Race the Train!" Runners and walkers of all ages are welcome, with different races from the Main Race the Train, the 10K, the Fun Run and the Toddlers' Trot.
"Race the Train" takes place alongside as far as practicable the route taken by the Talyllyn Railway on its journey to Abergynolwyn and back. In order to do this all courses use a mixture of public roads, lanes, un-metalled roads, tracks, agricultural land, and rough grazing pastures.
These events are sponsored by the Rotary Club of Tywyn, and all proceeds go to various charities. For more information visit www.racethetrain.com
VICTORIAN FESTIVAL

From August 18th through August 26th, you may enjoy going back to Victorian Times at the Llandrindod Wells Victorian Festival. Full of Victorian atmostphere, the town will be full of costumed townspeople and visitors alike, all enjoying street entertainers, competitions and other events. To whet your appetite, you may partake of: Old Time Music Hall, the Butlers' Bash, Best Dressed Lady, Gent and Child competitions, the Welsh Male Voice Choir, Best Decorated Hat competitions, Victorial Tea Dance, Professor Sandini's Punch and Judy Show, Dr Southall's Medicine Show, and much much more.
This is the 26th year for the Victorial Festival, and more information can be found at www.victorianfestival.co.uk.
INTERNATIONAL BOGNOR BIRDMAN

The Birdman is a flight competition for human powered flying machines held each summer in the picturesque seaside resort of Bognor Regis on England's South Coast. With its inception in 1971, prizes are now offered in many categories such as Longest Time in the Air and Unluckiest and Most Unfortunate Entrant. The record remains with local lad Dave Bradshaw, who flew 89.2 metres in 1992. The types of crafts that are entered range from hang gliders, paragliders, articulated wings, pedal assisted gliders, and almost everything you could imagine. Costumes are encouraged.
Over 30,000 spectators watch the Birdman competition, which is being held September 1 - 2, and proceeds benefit various charities. For more details, see www.birdman.org.uk
BRIDGWATER GUY FAWKES CARNIVAL

The website claims this is the largest illuminated carnival in Europe. To be held on Friday November 9th, 2007 in Bridgwater, Somerset. The procession is put on by Carnival Clubs (just like in New Orleans!) The celebrations date back to the Gunpowder Plot in 1605, when King James declared that the event should be commemorated. Folks in Bridgwater just did it with a lot more fun and merrymaking than most!
For more details, the official website can be found at Bridgewater Guy Fawkes Carnival
