Despite lurking Hurricane Helene, on September 27th - 28th Louisiana DBE members hosted the 2024 Southern District Meeting. Delegates from throughout the South spent the weekend in the "Big Easy" with the business meeting on Saturday morning and social events Friday and Saturday nights. There was serious discussion at the meeting, and great fun in the evenings. Louisiana DBEs tried to give the out of town members a taste of New Orleans, including mimosas during the Saturday morning break!
April 20th DBE held their annual Spring Tea Fundraiser at Longue Vue House and Gardens. The weather was perfect and the food was delicious. The menu included all the usual favorites - cucumber, egg salad, coronation chicken and ham and mango sandwiches. Scones were accompanied by clotted cream, raspberry jam and lemon curd. Sweets were tea bread, shortbread, chocolate brownies and lemon squares. And if guests were unable to stay, they could purchase Tea-in-a-Box to enjoy later.
Louisiana was represented by Betty Calzada and Beth Goddard at the Annual Convention in Alexandria, Virginia on May 17th and 18th. On the last day, the Marjorie Kirkland Award for an increase in membership was presented, and Louisiana won for states with 50-99 members. Marjorie Kirkland, OBE was National President from 1962-1965 and the award named after her has been given ever since .
